Week 49 2016

Hello!

Following on from my successful shop at the market in Castillon for my Christmas cake I set to and made my cake this weekend.

I never make the same cake twice, and this year's recipe was chosen as it has dried figs and we had a bumper crop from our tree this year. The cake is now wrapped up safely and will be fed weekly until Christmas is here.

The Pre-Christmas season is picking up speed and there are plenty of Christmas markets in the region to visit this weekend.  Don't hesitate to let me know if there is anything near you that you would like me to include.

Whatever you do in Gironde and Dordogne, have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Helen

Week 48 2016

Hello!

I love to make a traditional English Christmas cake - more dried fruits than batter, more brandy than butter! So, I'm delighted that there's a wonderful stand at Castillon market on a Monday morning which sells a whole range of dried fruits and nuts, perfect ingredients for my cake.

As an added bonus, the stall holder also sells fabulous olives and delicious tapinades and baba ghanouch.  He also won't let me speak French and his English is wonderful!  Look out for him if you are at the market, his stand is against the wall in the small square opposite the church.

Whatever you do this week, (I'll be baking a cake) have a super time in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.

Best wishes,
Helen
