Week 17 2017

Hello!

This coming weekend, St Emilion opens its doors for 3 days of visits, tastings and activities.  Over 80 chateaux are opening their doors and inviting you in.  For a full list of these places follow this link

As part of the celebration of wine, the Barrel Rouleurs will be out in the villages with daily displays.  There are running races through the vines and many of the chateau are offering lunch menus and art and craft exhibitions.  A detailed programme is here.

A Rouleur with a barrel

Monday 1 May is a Jour Ferie (bank holiday) so the St Emilion Portes Overtes rolls over to the Monday and there are loads of shopping and browsing options out and about for the Monday.
Whatever you do over the coming week, have a great time in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally

1st May also called May Day, La Fête du Muguet, La Fête du Travail in France is a public holiday to campaign for and celebrate workers rights. It is also an occasion to present lily-of-the-valley to loved ones.
King Charles IX of France was presented with lily of the valley flowers on 1st May 1561. He liked the gift and decided to present lily of the valley flowers to the ladies of his court each year on 1st May. Around 1900, men started to present a bouquet of lily of the valley flowers to women to express their affection. The flowers are a more general token of appreciation between close friends and family members these days.

Week 16 2016

Hello!

It was a packed out village in Castillon last weekend.  All the fun of the fair as the Easter funfair came to town.  Monday morning was particularly bust with the weekly market and the Easter fair both running at the same time!  I popped in a little bit early to see the calm before the storm (and pick up oysters).  I was intrigued to see the dodgems all lined up ready to go...

The oysters were delicious too!  Hot or cold - how do you like yours?

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a great time.

Best wishes,
Helen
