Week 40 2020

 Hello!

We managed a visit to the foire des Artisans d'Art in St Emilion at the weekend.  It was just before the 15 day restrictions in the Gironde began, so it could go ahead.  It was, however, pretty empty.  Such a shame for all the Artisans there, including some from the Maison des Artisans.

It seems that all events with groups of more than 10 people in the Gironde are on hold.  This is from the Government site:

From 25 September and for a period of 15 days, the following new measures will apply in the Gironde department:
- all sports halls will be closed except for school and extra-curricular use;
- indoor swimming pools will also be closed;
- the village halls and multi-purpose halls will be closed for festive or associative use;
- gatherings of more than 10 people in the public space will be prohibited;
- flea markets and garage sales, non-food markets, sports and festive events on the public highway as well as local and student festivals will be prohibited.

Seems like cinemas are still open as are all food markets.

Currently, the Dordogne region has not been designated a Red Zone, so events can still go ahead.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, take care and keep safe.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

Despite set backs galore I am finally opening a pottery workshop in Sauveterre at the Maison des Artisans.  The top floor workshop became available and I decided to take the plunge and go for it.  My Saturday workshops have been becoming increasingly popular, and the request for pottery sessions and workshops in Sauveterre has been growing.

If we struggle to find something good from Covid, what people are looking for is a time to refocus and give themselves a moment to collect themselves and breathe.  I learnt from the best, and know that time spent with your hands in the mud gives your mind the freedom to wander, relax and unwind.

It's not about being a great artist (and I should know!) it's about giving back to yourself, its about sharing a moment of calm... and who knows, if you make a bowl or a cup, you have a great object too!

Week 39 2020

Hello!

The grape harvest is going on all around us at the moment.  Will it be a bumper year... surely 2020 has to be good for something! 😂 St Emilion has started their harvest too.  All grapes should be picked by hand.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, keep well and safe and have a good week.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

The 4th October is the 4th Rencontre des Savoir Faire in Sauveterre.  The Association Arts' Typiques hosts an exhibition in the town square of local Artisans who share their knowledge and skills with demonstrations and exhibitions.  Covid protocols are in place, but this does mean that there won't be opportunities to try your hand at the various stands, but there will be plenty going on, including artisan demonstrations, a fashion show and a magic show.

It is also the opening of my new studio in the Maison des Artisans.  I have the workshop on the top floor and will be delighted to see you - please pop in and say hello.  If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will see how the workshop is coming along.

Do you know these hands?

Week 38 2020

 Hello!

Looking for a splash of colour in Castillon?  Bon Pour 1 Tour ( a talented graphic design team based in Castillon) have updated the wall on Avenue Jules Ferry.  If you're going towards Intermarche from the main square, it's on your left.

The Gironde is currently classified as a Zone Rouge under the Covid classifications and Bordeaux now has strict protocols in place with regards to what you can and cannot do, including outdoor activities and meetings.  It's not yet clear how this is manifesting itself in the more rural areas, some events are cancelled, others are still going ahead.

The activities and events that are listed below may not go ahead. If you know they are cancelled - please let me know and I'll update the listing.  I can do this at any time, even if I've already posted the page.
Best thing to do, is to call ahead and check before going to an event.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, stay safe, keep well and have a good week.

Best wishes,
Helen
