Week 47 2012

Bordeaux waterfront
Hello!

A beautiful sunny week.

Firstly I must thank everyone who has helped me to identify the mysterious nocturnal catlike creature that I met on the road by Ste Radegonde.  I am quite sure that it was a European Genet.  Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genet_%28animal%29 and see if you agree, and many thanks to CH who recognised it, despite the moth-eaten look of the animal in the photo.

If you are planning a trip to Bordeaux then it is an ideal time to visit both the Antiques Fair and the Christmas Market.  They are right next to each other and are open from Friday 23 November.

Have a good week,

Best wishes,

Helen

Coming up…

And finally…

Disaster has befallen our beehives and last week it became clear that the 2nd hive was rather too quiet.  Tom took it apart and inside he found the remains of the hive, but not a single bee or drop of honey.  The comb is an amazing structure, but not even a riverside location could prevent the bees from leaving.  We think that the continual bombardment from hornets finally drove them away.

The combs from inside the hive.

  1. Hello, i came to know about you through Fiona. i'm a mother very much on the look-out for kids...
i should thus add on Dec 11th - 19h Sainte-Foy Salle des Fêtes, the 3rd part of the fantastic tale of the frisherman and his cat, two dancers and a musician back from Indonesia (they were in Cambodia and Peru previousely) to perform the show they've put together after local artists directions with traditionnal media. It's an experience sponsored by Conseil Général of great artisitic value - 6€ par adult free for kids.
Have a nice season, warm regards, faustine
