Week 26 2013

Hello,

A very early photo of Les Guinots
Almost 80 years ago, in 1935, a small group of winemakers in and around Flaujagues and Juillac joined together to form the Cave Coopérative des Guinots.  Since then they have grown in size and now boast a membership of 52 winemakers covering a total of 370 hectares.

They have progressed from the early methods of wine production from the pre-war years and have embraced modern technology with state-of-the-art equipment and expertise.  A visit to the winery hides a modern working environment behind a decidedly vintage exterior!

It is with great pleasure that Les Guinots and notjustfortheholidays have entered into a partnership whereby special wine events and offers are available only through the blog.  Follow the links on the sidebar which will take you to the unique page.  A page that will evolve, and special offers that will change.

And when you visit Les Guinots to try and to buy the Bordeaux Superieur wines, and meet Laurie in the newly decorated reception, don’t forget to mention that you read about them here…

Cheers!

Have a great week,

Helen

Coming up...

And Finally...

The humid weather caused quite a stir in one of our hives the other day...

I thought that the bees were getting ready to swarm, but apparently not.  This strange formation is called 'bearding' and is caused by hot and humid weather.  The temperature inside the hive rises, so the bees gather together outside the hive to cool down.  If the inside of the hive was to get too hot then the brood inside could overheat and die.  The more I learn about bees the more amazed I am.
