Week 30 2019

Hello!

Chamber Orchestra of Gironde
32nd Annual Gensac Music Festival

Gensac Church Sunday 28 July and Sunday 4 August

The “ancien village” of Gensac and the Chamber Orchestra of Gironde have been close friends for more than thirty years!  From the start, Gensac has warmly hosted the music festival: now the musicians come back each season to find “their” village, while the local residents await “their” musicians.  The musicians are housed by locals, the public has free entry to rehearsals and the popular after-concert receptions bring everyone together for a drink and a chant.

This summer artistic Director Scott Sandmeier has gathered musicians of international renown for an exceptional program of “Grand Concerts” and “Concerts Découvertes,” with works of Mozart, Debussy, Sarasate, Volkmann, Nielsen, Abel/Mozart, Glass, Finzi, Haydn…

The Gensac Concert Découverte Sunday 28 July offers a selection of not-oft-performed musical oeuvres, and the Gensac Grand Concert Sunday 4 August will feature the renowned American pianist Stephanie Gurga performing the “Tirol Concerto for Piano” by Philip Glass.

The Festival is also welcomed in the churches of Lapouyade, Rauzan, Montagne, Ste-Croix-du-Mont and at the Fondation John Bost in La Force.

Coming up...

And finally...

Just a little update on the progress we’re making for an Anglophone resource for Alzheimers in Eymet.

We’ve managed to get a building to use for meetings – the communal space at the Residence des Personnes Agees in Eymet – on Wednesday afternoons, which is a great start.  So now we’re starting to prepare for formal sessions to commence, most likely in October.

In the meantime, we’ll be doing 2 informal sessions in that space (sort of Q & A presentations) on the afternoons of 21st August and 18th September from 14:30 to 17:00(ish).

Currently there’s no dedicated email address for the Anglophone Group, but we can be contacted through the Facebook Community that Alex runs ( https://www.facebook.com/carersinfrance/ )and also https://www.facebook.com/FranceAlzheimerDordogneEnglish/
