A page to visit to find out what's happening in the Gironde and Dordogne area, what's going on, what to do, what to see and where to go each week and throughout the year.
My lovely friend Almen Drita took some great photos of the stages involved in throwing a bowl. I'm putting them up in the studio as an 'aide memoire' for the people on the workshops.
Delayed from last year, the 4th Rencontre de Savoir Faire is going ahead this weekend in Sauveterre. The Association Arts Typiques in the Maison des Artisans invites local artists to come and share their knowledge with demonstrations and exhibitions. The village square will host a range of events on Sunday, including the artisans from the Association, a wood turner, a basket weaver, weaving, spinning, even a large still to show the art of plant distillation.
The Maison des Artisans will be open and I'll be in my studio throwing in the morning, you can also visit the other studios there, with the Calabash workshop and the textile studio holding demonstrations. There are Food trucks, a bar, live entertainment and wooden games for all the family.
Pop in and say hello, discover something new!
Whatever you do this weekend in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a good week.
This week I've been fascinated by the wrapping up of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
An amazing project by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, a temporary artwork for Paris, will be on view for
16 days from Saturday, September 18 to Sunday, October 3, 2021. The project will be realized in partnership
with the Centre des Monuments Nationaux and in coordination with the City of
Paris. It also receives the support of the Centre Pompidou. The Arc de Triomphe will be wrapped in 25,000 square meters of
recyclable polypropylene fabric in silvery blue, and with 3,000 meters of red
rope.
Maybe next stop the bridge at Castillon...
Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions this week, have a great time.
Coming up on Sunday 26 September the long awaited 4th Rencontre des Savoir-Faire in Sauveterre. It was cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions, but this year, we're full steam ahead (with sanitary protocols in place)
Come and see a host of artists and artisans demonstrate their skills. Both inside the Maison des Artisans and outside in the square, artists will be at work. Watch spinning and weaving, see basket making, and in the afternoon Julia will light the still to distillate the essence from plants. Plus a wood-turner...mosaic making...exhibitions...food trucks...concerts... and don't forget crepes whilst you wait... and a bar!
I'll be throwing pots in the morning to celebrate one year in the studio. Come and say Hello - you're always welcome!
