Week 40 2013

Hello!

There was a beautiful double rainbow over St Emilion on Saturday afternoon which quite made up for the dark thundery skies in a week where we have been dodging the raindrops which fell between periods of glorious sunshine.  Is this normal September weather? I think the winemakers would say that it’s definitely not!

There was a gap between the showers on Sunday long enough to make a quick visit to our closest vide-grenier in Mouliets … ‘Any old iron, any old iron, any old, any old iron…’

Next to the church in Mouliets

The grape harvests have started in the Gironde and Dordogne, if you get a chance to be involved it’s a great experience.  Ask your local tourist office, or Maison du vin where you can take part.  See here for St Emilion http://www.saint-emilion-tourisme.com/fr/agenda.html?m=10&id=251

Whatever you do – have a great week,

Best wishes,
Helen

Thank you TK for the photos.

Week 39 2013

Hello!

It’s so lovely to have the sunshine back again.  We were inspired to head out into the countryside and visit an area that we don’t know so well.   We discovered this beautiful sparkling weir at St Seurin sur Isle complete with a little beach.

Can you believe that it’s less than 100 days (or sleeps!) until Christmas? I’m already receiving information about Christmas Markets, so if you are holding one, or know of one please let me know.  I’m always keen to receive your contributions about event and activities in and around the Gironde and Dordogne regions, send me pictures, posters and words and I’ll include them in the relevant weeks.

Have a good week, I guess we’ll all be at the pottery and art exhibition next weekend, there really isn’t much I can find going on…

Best wishes,

Helen,

 And finally…

Or that one tin of car paint could cover so many cars…

Or that there's always space for a picnic, no matter how small your car is...

We saw these cars at St Medard on our adventure!

Week 38 2013

Hello!
Anything and everything for sale in Baron.

I never cease to be amazed at the variety of items that are for sale at a brocante or a vide grenier!  The lines between the two are blurred and it seems that anything goes Baron was no exception.  The huge event sprawled through the village and out into the field.

The nights are starting to draw in, and thoughts on ‘Dinner and a Movie’ come to mind.  On Saturday in Ste Foy there is a film in English showing at 18h, perfect timing to go on and have dinner afterwards.

Which leads nicely on to the Fete de la Gastronomie which is now in its 3rd Year. Follow the link below to see what’s going on near to you.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and the Dordogne region – have a great week.

Best wishes,

Helen
