Week 31 2016

Hello!

St Emilion hosted their 3rd Jazz festival with international groups congregating in the beautiful village for concerts throughout the weekend.

There were free concerts, open air concerts, concerts in old buildings and big and small concerts.  Something for everyone.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a great week.

Best wishes,
Helen

31 July : Celebrating Shakespeare in Loubes Bernac.

May 2016 marked the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare,
probably the world’s most loved and read poet and playwright.
Commemorations are being held throughout the world to mark this occasion.
On Sunday 31st July at 5pm in the church in Loubes-Bernac, there will be a unique commemoration in words and music, of
Shakespeare’s life and work.
This will include extracts from his plays, both spoken and sung, songs by
Schubert, Finzi and Richard Errington, period music from Ad Libitum,
and most important the World Premier of the recently rewritten
“Ariel Plays” by Simon Kenworthy.  This is a fabulously rich choral work
which Simon originally presented with the Eymet Choir, but he has
substantially rewritten it for the baritone soloist, Peter Fowler, with Jonathan
Smalley as pianist and the Ariel Choir.  The work is based on texts from
both The Tempest and one of the Sonnets.
It will be a spine-tingler!
Entry is free but with a retiring collection.
