Did you know that all country roads without central reservations, and outside of restricted areas like towns and villages are now limited to a speed of 80km/h?
If there is no speed limit sign, for example when you leave a village and the name of the place is crossed out on the sign, then 80km/h applies. If another speed is shown, then that's the one to go for. If it says 90 then it means 80. Apparently its a 2 year long initiative to see if France is safer on the roads with a lower speed limit.
And, if like me, you always struggle with your numbers in French - here's a helpful image! (Though perhaps you shouldn't drive with quatre vins!)
Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions this week, have a great time.
Best wishes,
Helen
