Week 35 2017

Hello!

This weekend Castillon chateaux open their doors and invite you in for a weekend of wine tasting and chateau exploring.  There are 15 chateaux welcoming you and as well as the wines there are art exhibitions, live music and food options and a great Sunday lunch event at Chateau Pitray with jazz, and many of the Castillon wines there for the tasting.

See below for full details.

Some of the chateaux speak English, I know for sure the charming Robert Brimfield at Clos Vieux Rochers is British and there's bound to be English at Chateau la Clariere Laithwaite.  If you know of any other who speak English, please don't hesitate to add a note to the end of the Newsletter in the comments.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a great time.

Best wishes,
Helen

Coming up...

And finally... a cautionary story from a wise reader, thank you PL.

As the fig season is upon us you may or may not know about figs and fig wasps. I did not know that a fig is not a fruit but a flower which is pollinated by a wasp which crawls in and gets stuck and therefore there is a good chance that eating a fig means you are eating a wasp or bits of one. Commercially cultivated figs apparently do not need a fig wasp but a wild fig does.

So, approach a fig with care - they are delicious though, and this year we have had a bumper crop.
