Hello!
The Battle of Castillon finally got off to an explosive
start! The warm and balmy evening was
perfect for the event. If you don’t have
your tickets yet, it's not too late, please go to http://www.batailledecastillon.com/
Sunday morning took us to Chateau Laroque to see bread maker
James making pain levain (sourdough bread).
Using the natural yeasts present in the grains of wheat to make the
bread rise his passion and patience was a lesson in ‘slow food’. From start to finish a loaf takes 5 days at
least. Delicious and well worth the wait!
You can now follow notjustfortheholidays on Instagram http://instagram.com/notjustfortheholidays With pictures from life during the week too! Hope to see you there.

Plenty to do this week – night markets all over the place
and lots of live music events too.
Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne – have a great week.
Best wishes,
Helen

Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater's
BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child
named Mason (a breakthrough performance by Ellar Coltrane),
who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette
as Mason's parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha,
BOYHOOD charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before.
Snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and
graduations and all the moments in between become transcendent, set to a
soundtrack spanning the years from Coldplay's Yellow to Arcade Fire's Deep
Blue. BOYHOOD is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to
growing up and parenting. Written by IFC

A message from Ron Marsh ronald.marsh@wanadoo.fr
Dates to remember.
If you are like me, I need a very visual prompt to
remember important dates. Yes, I can put
them in my diary but then I have to remember to open it. To solve my problem, at the beginning of each
year, I look for a very attractive wall calendar which has big squares for each
day of the month and in these squares I write reminders to myself. Thank goodness it works.
Whatever method you use, please mark off the week from 23
to 31 August, which is the 9th edition of “The Franco-British Week”
in Pays Foyen.
Whether you reside here in France or just enjoy holidays
in our wonderful region you will certain find a number of events which you will
enjoy. There’s a very full programme of
events to suite all tastes, Art and choral music, sport and jazz, wine and
food, guided tours of gardens and Ste Foy la Grande plus river trips, quiz
night and a grand picnic. You can even
partake in a cooking lesson, with local chefs, of our best regional dishes.
The official opening will be from the steps of the Mairie
of Ste Foy la Grande at 11.45 on Saturday 23 August where the special guests
will be Claude Villers, a highly respected local journalist and Martin Walker,
the author of the Inspector Bruno series of books. If you are not familiar with
the Inspector Bruno books then I strongly recommend that you look at Martin
Walker’s web site www.brunochiefofpolice.com I know of no other author who captures the
life, the culture, the people and the food of our region with such joy and
insight.
More to follow, so watch this space and the stores in
Pays Foyen for more information.
Ron Marsh.
