Week 44 2024

Hello!

This week, 1 November is a public holiday called La Toussaint.  On this day many French people honour the lives of their deceased relatives by putting flowers on the family graves – traditionally chrysanthemums.  Most shops and restaurants are closed as people generally try and spend the day with their family.  By the way, even though you might think that chrysanthemums would make a great gift – don’t try offering them to a French person, here they are flowers for remembrance. The cemeteries are filled with colour at this time of year.

I'm having issues with my computer and the mouse, (I'm such a ignoramus) so apologies that this is a short and somewhat late edition...😬

One of my potters told me that this is the most consecutive days without rain that we've had this year! So whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a great time.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

Couples pottery... newlyweds tried their hands at throwing on the wheel, really good for a first try.  They may well have become clay converts!

Week 43 2024

 Hello!

The clocks change this weekend...

So, enjoy that extra hour in bed on Sunday morning, but say goodbye to light evenings.  Take care out there on the roads.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions this week, have a good time.
Best wishes,
Helen

Week 42 2024

 Hello!

Did you manage to catch a glimpse of the comet this week? My friend got a snap on her phone whilst her nearest and dearest set up his camera and missed it!

There's so much rain around, so to catch another sighting over the next few days will be a challenge.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne region over the next week, have a lovely time.
Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

New into the boutique in Sauveterre, an apero dish.  A bowl inside a bowl, a dish inside a dish.

Perfect for serving those nibbles, a place in the centre for cocktail sticks, olive pips, sauces or dips.  I've made a range of sizes, and here's this first in a new bubble glaze colour...

Week 41 2024

 Hello!

This weekend is the twice a year brocante in Rauzan - are things over priced? Is it cheeky to have an entrance fee?  Perhaps it's yes to both!  But I love a rummage and an explore, and of course a haggle!

The question remains as to whether the sun will shine?

Whatever you do in the coming week, have a lovely time in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.
Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

Sgrafitto is a wonderfully reassuring technique for decoration on clay for those of us who feel somewhat apprehensive about our artistic abilities.  It allows you to trace, copy and plan ahead for a surface decoration that can be both simple and bold, but most of all, looks rather good in the end!

Scrafitto plate workshop in Suveterre on Sunday 20th October.

If you'd like to give it a go, give me a call, or send a message and spend the time to create your very own plate. 📞06 30 89 85 36
