Week 4 2017

Hello!

What a lot of cold...
Here's the fountain outside the Mairie in Castillon.

The film and cinema awards are up and coming, so the cinemas are awash with VO films - still yet to see LaLa Land. Don't forget the Orange Tuesdays, 2 for the price of 1 tickets.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne, keep warm and enjoy fireside life!

Best wishes,
Helen

Week 3 2017

Hello!

Did you know that there are weekly flea markets around the St Michel quartier in Bordeaux? Up and running during the week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and the biggest, most popular time, on a Sunday morning.

So, last Sunday (despite the damp weather) we headed over there to have a look.  Be warned... there's a lot of junk, but there are also a few gems if you rummage! And rummage I did!  I'd been after a big wooden bowl, and there it was, buried at the back of a stall, covered in dust and dirt! It's now pride of place in the kitchen.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, wrap up warm and have a good week.
Best wishes,
Helen

Castillon - January 2016

Week 1 2017

Hello!

Wishing you a very healthy and happy New Year! Courtesy of Perry Taylor...

http://perrytaylor.fr/en/

I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas time, with family, friends and cake!  2017 looks like it's going to be a year full of new adventures and challenges for us, not least a little gite to renovate.

A quiet start to the new year, so if you are looking for things to do, here are some of my favourites:
  • Wander the cobbled streets of St Emilion.  In the wintertime there's plenty of parking and the streets and lanes belong to you.
  • Visit the Cite du Vin in Bordeaux, http://www.laciteduvin.com/en Closed on Mondays, but at this time of year there's no queuing.
  • Head north to Blaye, discover the Citadel and look out along the estuary.
  • Sunday mornings in Bordeaux, you're spoilt for choice. There's the flea market around St Pierre, anything from a vintage armchair to a solitary wine glass.  If you prefer fresh produce, there's a fabulous organic market on the waterfront by the Hangars.
  • But mostly, Sundays will often find us rummaging at the weekly flea market in Rauzan.
What are your go-to places to visit and things to do in the winter months?

Whatever you do in the coming week, have a healthy new year in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.
Best wishes,
Helen
