Week 40 2017

Hello!

There was a super little artisan exhibition in the centre of Saveterre last weekend. Plenty of traditional craftsmen and women were there showing their skills in their various crafts, watched over by stilt walkers.  There was a blacksmith who forged his own knives from metal rods and a woman dying skeins of wool with natural dyes. We were particularly taken by the one and a half metre tall still, only distilling plant extracts unfortunately...

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne region, have a great time.  Don't forget, if you have anything you want to include into the Newsletter, send it to me and I'll include it.  Address below.

Best wishes,
Helen

Week 39 2017

Hello!

The wine harvest are underway.  There's no denying, 2017 will be an interesting vintage.  The frosts at the end of April destroyed as much as 50% of the grapes on some vineyards, the unusual weather throughout the summer months, and the coldest September in 25 years have all added to the trials and tribulations of this year's production.

We wait and see.  These grapes on the plateau of St Emilion look pretty healthy and the harvests are underway in most of the Bordeaux regions.  Thank you Bellawines for this great photo from Château la Mission Haut-Brion in Pessac-Léognan.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion
Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, watch out for those harvesting tractors, they're enormous!

Best wishes,
