Week 9 2020

Hello!

There were cars racing all around Castillon for the Rallye Bordeaux Aquitaine Classic 2020
this weekend .  If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be inside the car, have a look at this British couple taking part.

Thank you! We did it - 400,000 visitors!  Here's to half a million!👍😃

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, keep dry and have a great time.

Best wishes,
Helen

Week 8 2020

Hello!

We're having some wonderful mild weather and now’s the time to set your hornet traps.  They are easy to build and amazingly successful, just don’t empty them out, top them up with more bait, it’s true, nothing seems to be more effective at attracting another hornet, than a trapped one!  Though the first traps should be laced with a mixture of beer, dry white wine and syrup (grenadine flavour is good, but any sweet syrup will work).  The beer and syrup attract the hornet and the white wine will repel the bees.

Many thanks for all your continued support, whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a lovely time.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

Thank you to everyone who supports this Newsletter/blog.  What started as a hobby as become something of a passion.  It looks like this week it may tip over to 400,000 views!  Not bad for such a niche audience.

I'm always looking for events and activities to add into the weekly Newsletter, so if you have an event you would like promoted, or see or hear of something that may be of interest please don't hesitate to let me know.  Take a photo of a poster on your phone and send it over, or add it in the comments at the bottom of the page.

Also please feel free to send the link on to family, friends and visitors to this beautiful region. I love meeting people who say they have been to an event as they saw it on the newsletter.

Week 7 2020

Hello!

There's a new little grocers shop and coffee bar opened up in Flaujagues.  Danny and Elodie, a young couple from the north of France have moved to Flaujagues with their family to take on the shop in the centre of the village.

Working with the support of the successful restaurant, Le P'tit Flaujaguais just next door, the shop is carrying local produce and general supplies.  They have a daily bread delivery and you can book ahead if necessary.

Pop in and have a coffee, they have some specialty beers too.  Let's support our local businesses.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne, have a great time.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

Changes for the recycling bins come into effect from the 1 March:

The widening of sorting instructions means that from March 1, 2020, all packaging will go to the yellow bin or the yellow terminal. No more questions and doubts: if it's packaging, it can go to recycling. Plastic packaging is the big news. Now, the water pack wrapping, ham tray, yogurt pot ... are all to be thrown in the yellow bin. Small metal packaging such as coffee pods, blister packs of medicines, compote gourd, etc. are also now to be placed in the container for recycling.

For USTOM customers, find out more here.
