Week 47 2014

Hello!

I wonder if the rain will ever stop… So, what better way to spend Sunday than in Jo McKinnon’s pottery workshop at her Christmas Portes Ouvertes.  Beautiful ceramic items to choose from with something to suit all tastes and budgets. Don’t worry if you missed her there, she’ll be in Monteton on Sunday.

I’ve just put together a page with a listing of all the Christmas Markets I can find. You can find the link on the the right side of the blog under Pages or click http://notjustfortheholidays.blogspot.fr/p/christmas-markets-2014.html   If you know of any other markets then please let me know and I’ll add it in.  Also, if you hear of any carol concerts and Christmas music events please can you send me the details.

Have a great week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions – and who knows… the rain may stop soon.

Best wishes,

Helen

Week 46 2014

Hello!

Before...
This weekend was pig weekend.  As some of you may know, all throughout the summer we have been involved with a group of friends with 4 pigs.  We have visited them, fed them and watched them grow, and so this weekend we had our very own ‘Pig Festival’.

... and after!
Saturday was spent butchering the pigs and turning them into joints for the freezer, cuts for salting and preserving and sausages.  Much discussion took place over the best way to cut and the most delicious recipe for sausages… some preferring a British banger whilst our personal favourite is a fennel and paprika chorizo.

Back home, our freezer is packed with pork and our cellar is full of preserving joints whilst our fridge has those wonderful sausages.

It was a thoroughly wonderful experience and many thanks to M&K for inviting us to join them.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions – have a great time.

Best wishes,
Helen

A note to say I have been advised by a very reliable source that the film "Pride" with Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton is brilliant.   The 1980's factor is spot-on - right down to the Laura Ashley wallpaper and you come out of the cinema with a real feel good factor - so much so that she and others who have already seen it, are going to see it again whenever they get the chance.

I am instructed to recommend it my friends - so I am just doing as I am told....(tho' if in doubt, do check out the reviews...!).

Although Tuesday is a holiday it is on in V.O. at the Cinema La Breche in Ste. Foy la Grande at 20h30.
