Week 25 2015

Hello!

The Epicuriales return to Bordeaux from 12 – 27 June.  Les Allees du Tourney are turned into a wonderful open air food hall with many of the great chefs of the region coming together to showcase their restaurants and their style of cooking all in one wonderful ‘dining room’.

Find out who will be there, what you can see and eat and when the chefs are demonstrating their skills.  There’s something for everyone…you can book an evening with a Michelin starred chef… taste tapas as the sun sets… dine on traditional Moroccan Tajine… indulge in the best regional cuisine.  There really is a flavour to suit all taste buds!

Whatever you eat and wherever you are in the Dordogne and Gironde regions – have a great week.
Best wishes,
Helen

13 June 18h : Jimmy’s Hall is showing in VO at La Breche in Ste Foy la Grande.
1932. Jimmy Gralton is back home in the Irish countryside after ten years of forced exile in the USA. His widowed mother Alice is happy, Jimmy's friends are happy, all the young people who enjoy dancing and singing are happy. Which is not the case of Father Sheridan, the local priest, nor of the village squire, nor of Dennis O'Keefe, the chief of the fascists. The reason is simple: Jimmy is a socialist activist. So when the "intruder" reopens the village hall, thus enabling the villagers to gather to sing, dance, paint, study or box, they take a dim view of the whole thing. People who think and unite are difficult to manipulate, aren't they? From that moment on they will use every means possible to get rid of Jimmy and his "dangerous" hall. Starring Barry Ward, Francis Magee and Aileen Henry

Week 23 2015

Hello!

The Perry Taylor exhibition ‘Petites Gasconneries’ opened this week and runs from 31 May – 27 September at the Musee Souterrain de St Emilion, 21 rue André Loiseau.  His wonderful cartoons capture life in rural France.  Find out more about him on Facebook or http://perrytaylor.fr/en/

I’d like to thank TC for his ‘two pennorth’ on the debate about fleuves and rivieres: There are 5 main Fleuves in France, La Seine; La Loire;La Gironne;le Loire and Le Rhine. These are like the main arteries which originate in a source and always flow into the sea. The Rivieres are tributaries of each of the Fleuves and always flow from the Fleuve, never the other way round. I'm not an authority, just remembering a course I took in French before I came out here, and this was one of the subjects we were examined on.

Perry Taylor sketch.
Whatever you do this week, have a sunny time in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.
Best wishes,
Helen

And finally…

It’s around about now when you should prune your cherry trees.  Wait until the last of the cherries
have been picked and eaten, then prune out the dead branches and the extra growth.
