week 14 2017

Hello!

Last week my Alistair Sawday's inspector hat took me up to Brantome in the Perigord Vert (so called because of all the green forests and meadows).

Brantome is a beautiful small town, famous for the Abbey.  It is sometimes referred to as the 'Venice of Dordogne' which is a slight exaggeration, but the town is surrounded by water and there is a unique bridge with a corner which crosses the river and the weir.

It was a miserable wet day, but I was enchanted enough to want to  go back again on a sunny day.

I'm looking forward to the Rauzan brocante this weekend, come and say 'Hello' if you see me rifling through the collections!

Whatever you do this week, have a lovely time in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.

Best wishes,
Helen

Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women, known as "human computers", we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history's greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.  Starring Taraji P. Henson. Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae
