The Chamber Orchestra of Gironde celebrates 30th Anniversary
The Gensac Music Festival is celebrating 30 years of world class music presented each summer, right here in our own backyard. To mark the occasion artistic director Scott Sandmeier proposes an exceptional program with musicians of international renown: Les "Concerts Découvertes" and a special "Weekend Anniversary. "
The "Weekend Anniversary" begins with the Vivaldi Concert, Friday 28 July, Gensac church, 21 h. Saturday 29 July a convivial pique-nique musicale - "Humor at the Harpsichord" - by Christopher Hainsworth will take place in the Romanesque church of Coubeyrac at 12h30. The public is invited to bring their picnic to enjoy the surrounding gardens and meet the musicians. The after-concert aperitif is offered by the village. The Sunday 30 July “Grand Concert” Gensac church, 18h, features the Orchestra with soloist Clara Pouvreau; cello (Schumann) and soloist Denis Pascal; piano (Mozart). Finale is Haydn Symphony no. 104 in D major. A cocktail reception in the gardens follows the concert.
For the Concerts Découvertes, (Boccherini, Haydn, Dvorak, Karlowicz) several villages of Gironde open the doors of their splendid churches: Lapouyade 4 aout, Rauzan 5 aout, Gensac 6 aout, Pellegrue (Halle) 8 aout.

The Gensac Concerts tend to sell out, so buy your ticket in advance, or plan to arrive at the church a little early.

And finally...
We went to watch the Battle of Castillon and it doesn't disappoint. There are changes from the show last year and it's more dynamic, with more crowd scenes, I'm always happy to see that the dentist is still at work. The lights, the sound and the action are all wonderful. My favourite part where the horses run free is still there. What more can I say, if you haven't been, it's a great show and there's still 4 weekends to run.
