Hello!

The Bandas in Pineuilh this weekend was great fun!  There was a great atmosphere in the big top as the Bandas competed with each other to entertain the crowds. Our ears were still ringing when we got back home again.  For me, the Bandas is best represented by the little video clip at the top!  It always makes me smile :)

The sun has finally got his hat on and with that, lots of opportunities to be out and about in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.  It seems like next weekend is Vide Grenier weekend.  Choose one, put your haggling head on and see what bargains you can find.

Week 22 2013

Hello!

Sunny, rainy, sunny, rainy… and not enough HOT!

We were surprised on Saturday to find that the Bicycle Race, the Tour de Gironde almost went past our door on the 3^rd stage of 4.  So we rushed to the end of the road just in time to see the bikes whizz by. 

If you are a fan of cycling, a date for your diary should be Tuesday 30 July 2013 which is when the celebrated Critérium is held in Castillon.  The race takes place on the slopes behind Castillon and there are 32 laps of a 3.1km course.  It often features famous cyclists hot from the Tour de France.

In the mean time, there’s plenty to keep us busy in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite all family and friends of students at The Old School to come and celebrate the achievements of the GCSE and A level Art students who have worked extremely hard to produce some fantastic pieces for the moderation and examination in 2013.

There will be a Vernissage on Tuesday 28th May, from 6pm until 8.30pm at the salle des fetes in St Colomb de Lauzun.

This is the only opportunity there will be to view and appreciate the students work and we would really love to see as many supporters as possible on the evening.

1 June 18h : 'Apero Musical' at the lock at St Laurent des Hommes (24400). For those who don't know where it is, approach St Laurent from the N89 and Bénévent, you will cross the River Isle by a bridge and the lock is down the path IMMEDIATELY on your right after the bridge.

Last year this evening was a huge success. The music is live Entertainment by the teachers at St Laurent's Music School playing together for the evening, so hopefully see some of you there.

If rain stops play, the venue will be moved to the Salle de Fête in the village at St Laurent.

1 - 2 June : l’association Les Cavaliers des trois vignobles, aidée d’une équipe importante de bénévoles, organisera their 4th Cross Country Horse Ride.  The courses vary in distance from 10km for the younger participants, up to 100km for the more experinced riders. The course follows tracks through the communes of Eymet, Pardaillan, Soumensac, La Sauvetat-du-Dropt, Saint-Jean-de-Duras, Saint-Astier, Margueron and le tour du lac de Lescourroux. We braved the chilly winds and wet weather to support the opening night at the Plage at Castillon.  The Plage is an open air restaurant on the banks of the Dordogne in Castillon.  You will find it just under the stone bridge.  The menu includes a selection of salads, and they have steak, fish and sausages cooked on a wood fire made from old vines, the hand cut chips aren’t too bad either!  They traditionally have live music and dancing on a Sunday afternoon throughout the summer.  What better way to spend a lazy Sunday…

Week 21 2013

Hello!

I’m going to tell you a secret… there’s a gorgeous restaurant hidden away in the vines between St Emilion and St Christophe des Bardes.  We went there for a celebration lunch on Sunday and had a delicious lunch.  We were superbly looked after by Mathieu and Sophie in the beautifully Asian inspired dining room.

Hi folks

The Mozaic Jazz Band, fresh home from a superbly successful concert in Norfolk, England, last week, will next be in concert in Bergerac as part of the Festival de Jazz Pourpre, on Sunday 26th May at 3.45 pm (for those who I said it was earlier, please read again as the timing has been changed)

We will be playing in the Place Gambetta, where the sous Préfecture is and the Centre Culturel.

I look forward to seeing some familiar faces in the audience. I believe there is to be a marquee just in case the skies don't know it's nearly summer.
