Week 48 2020

Hello!

The president has spoken.  These are from The Connection.

The great news is that the small independent shops including the Maison des Artisans Boutique in Sauveterre and Mon P'tit Baz'Arts in Ste Foy can open their doors again on Saturday.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a safe and sunny week.

Best wishes,
Helen

Coming up...

Venues are starting to promote Christmas Markets.

And finally...

To all my American friends

Week 47 2020

 Hello!

We watch and wait for the news to see what comes next.  Meanwhile, it's too soon to eat the Christmas cake, but not too soon to eat tea loaf.  This 'cold tea cake' always reminds me of one that my mum used to make.  Not sure if her recipe didn't come from her mum. And always spread with that delicious butter with salt crystals!

Cold tea cake and butter.

There is hope that daytime activities will reopen in December for the run up to Christmas.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and dordogne regions, continue to keep safe and use your small local businesses whenever you can.

Best wishes,
Helen

A beautiful local business is in Monsegur is Aux Herbes et caetera selling home grown, distilled and made teas, soaps, tinctures and lineaments.  Limited opening hours, so check ahead, and a great place to get gifts. I love their herbal teas.

And finally...

First we had hearts, and now we have stars.  The ideal Christmas decoration.  Call me if you would like to reserve them, then you can collect from me or from Sauveterre. €3.50 each, or 2 for €6.

We have begun to put our shop in Sauveterre online here. This way, you can see what we have, or follow the shop on Facebook here - you need to look under 'photos'

Week 46 2020

Hello!

All is very quiet.  We hunker down and keep safe, looking forward to a time when we can be back with our friends and family.

Many thanks 😍 to the lovely people who have bought hearts from me, I'm making more, and I also have Christmas stars too.

A lovely way to share time together is to create together.  I'm offering workshops and together time in the pottery studio in Sauveterre (post lockdown). No previous pottery experience necessary, and over the course of 2 hours you can make something unique.  I've made a few suggestions, but there's no limit to the imagination.

So, when you are thinking of gifts, or planning time with friends, consider a pottery workshop.  I meet up with girlfriends for lunch or coffee, but why not meet up for 'Papoterie'  😀 Coffee and homemade cake included.

Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, keep safe, keep well and support small businesses if you can.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally... hen update...

The four girls are finally settling in and starting to lay... fresh eggs are so good.

Week 45 2020

Hello!

As we settle into another lockdown, small businesses are really starting to suffer.

Less than a month into my new studio and all workshops and pottery parties have been cancelled.  Selling through boutique outlets is also forbidden.  We all need to take care of each other.

Send a heart to someone to someone to show you care.  Drop one into a friend's letterbox as you pass by to show them you're thinking of them.

I have a range of them for sale, each one handmade and individually glazed. These hearts have hearts, I also have flowers and stars. Contact me to buy - 06 30 89 85 36 - and you can collect from Sauveterre or Mouliets. €3.50/heart or 2 for €6.  Each small purchase will keep the studio afloat until we can open our doors again.

Whatever you do in the coming weeks in the Dordogne and Gironde regions, keep safe and well.
Best wishes,
Helen

And finally / Coming up...

It's a long way ahead, but the Tour de France is coming to our region next year.

We went to the time trials in Bordeaux many years ago and it was a great way to see the race.  With all the cyclists setting off at 2 minute intervals the activity stretches the whole day, rather than the peloton whizzing past in the blink of an eye!

Week 44 2020

Hello,

France will re-enter lockdown on Friday and it will remain in place until at least 1st December 1.

From the Mairie in Castillon:

It seems that pottery workshops are considered non-essential, therefore all those booked for November will be postponed.  Sorry for the inconvenience, though I will continue to make in the atelier in Sauveterre during the lockdown period.  If you have any requests or enquiries, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Keep safe,
Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

When the world is a little bit crazy... there are always cookies to bake (and eat!)

Week 43 2020

Hello!

Don't forget to change your clocks this weekend.  Put them back and hour on Saturday night, and you can have an hour extra in the morning on Sunday.  It does mean though, that sunset is an hour sooner and the days suddenly seem so short.

And here's our hen working up to making the announcement...

Wishing you a safe and sound week in the Gironde and Dordogne regions.

Best wishes,
Helen

As the autumn really sets in, I gathered the last of the roses, and the last of the rhubarb - some of which will make it into the freezer.  This is the first time we have managed to grow rhubarb...

And finally...

This looks like a good idea.  I wish I'd know about this when we got our new hens last month. Especially as there is another opportunity on 28th October in Mouliets et Villemartin.

The association "Poule pour tous" offers individuals the opportunity to save a reformed hen by buying it for 7 €. #poulepourtous is organising a big event for the adoption of 18-month-old red-haired laying hens in Saint Seurin sur l'Isle on Saturday 17 October from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, at 56 route de Bordeaux.
Organic and free-range hen breeders are obliged to renew their flock as soon as they are 18 months old. Thus, in order to avoid them leaving for the slaughterhouse prematurely, #poulepourtous is looking for adoptive families for them.
These chickens will lay 5 to 6 eggs per week for another 3 or 4 years!
If you wish to adopt some, go quickly to https://www.poulepourtous.com/planning-des-ventes/ to make your reservation!
