Week 46 2023

 Hello,

We've been working towards Christmas in the pottery studio, and one of the favourite projects for the moment is the centrepiece wreath.  It takes a few sessions to complete, but it will be fired and glazed and the final piece will all be white.  Watch this space to see the finished pieces.

If you're tempted to give it a go - it's really not that difficult, there's just lots of flowers to make - then give me a call and book a couple of sessions.

Plenty going on in the Gironde and Dordogne regions this week, have a good time,
Best wishes,
Helen

Week 45 2023

 Hello!

When the weather starts being wet and windy, what better thing to do than head over to the pottery studio in Sauveterre-de-Guyenne and get creative.

This week I have welcomed groups making Christmas decorations, and gifts for their friends and family.

Today's ladies were delighted with their creations. Call me if you'd like to give potting a go 0630898536

Whatever you do in the Gironde and Dordogne regions, have a great week.
Best wishes,
Helen

11 November - Jour férié

On October 24, 1922, November 11 officially became a public holiday dedicated to commemorations in France. Since then, every November 11, France has paid tribute to the soldiers and victims of the First World War. Throughout France, parades and activities are hosted on Armistice Day. Many cities and villages around the country host large community events to memorialize the losses of the war. People place wreaths, garlands, flowers, and other items on gravestones and memorials as well.

But Duras does things differently...

Week 44 2023

 Hello!

This week, 1 November is a public holiday called La Toussaint.  On this day many French people honour the lives of their deceased relatives by putting flowers on the family graves – traditionally chrysanthemums.  Most shops and restaurants are closed as people generally try and spend the day with their family.  By the way, even though you might think that chrysanthemums would make a great gift – don’t try offering them to a French person, here they are flowers for remembrance. The cemeteries are filled with colour at this time of year.

Christmas is coming up and there are Christmas markets in the area. If you have any details of up-coming events, please don't hesitate to let me know and thank you to those who have already sent me details.

Whatever you do this week in the Gironde and Dordogne, have a great week.

Best wishes,
Helen

And finally...

School holidays and I've been working with the 3 - 6 year olds at the Rauzan Centre de Loisirs.  We made space pumpkins all in black!

For many of the children, it's their first experience with clay... maybe this is the start of their potting life?
